    Honduran food is influenced by Spanish and African traditions, along with native cuisines across Central America. The recipes are hearty, healthy and very nutritious, it includes a lot of fruits and vegetables in the ingredients, most ingredients can be found in the backyards of the people. Honduras share similarities with other countries across Central America, most dishes prepared uses a heavy amount of coconut, tomatoes, beans, peppers, corn, etc. Hondurans are also fond of eating pineapples, mangoes, plantains, cassava root, and they include some of these ingredients in pies, juices, etc. People also eat meat like, fish, beef, chicken and pork. They create delicious meals using the resources that grow around them. Some of the popular dishes consist of:


Fried Yojoa Fish

    Originating from the Lago de Yojoa Region, this is a traditional Honduran dish. The fish is marinated  with spices and salt and deep fried. It can be served with pickled red cabbage, pickled onions, lime slices and fried plantains.


    

   ➤ Honduran food is made with herbs like coriander, oregano, cumin etc. and lime juice to give the food a very good flavor. Neither spicy nor sweet, but a perfect blend of spices, herbs, and other flavors. 


Plato Tipico

    This national dish includes a variety of foods prepared separately, but forming a complete meal in the end. The meal consists of fried plantains, stewed of refried beans, marinated and grilled beef, pork sausage and cracklings and rice. The dish can come with sour cream, cheese, avocado slices, marinated cabbage, lime juice and tortillas on the side. 


   ➤ Honduran style sour cream is called mantequilla.

Baleada 

    Baleada consists of a wheat flour tortilla filled with fried mashed beans. You can add other ingredients like cheese, eggs, avocado.   





Rosequillas 

    Traditionally Spanish deep-fried donuts for the sweet tooth! There are many varieties of these donuts.The classic ones are prepared using eggs, sugar, milk, oil,lemon zest, flour,baking powder, and anisette. They are deep fried and topped with cinnamon sugar.

  

Popular Beverages Of Honduran Cuisine

Guaro- It is a common beverage of Honduras and is made of sugar cane extract.

Gifiti- Gifiti, which translates as bitter, is an alcoholic drink of the Garifuna, indigenous people that were mostly exiled to Honduras and Guatemala. The drink is made with various herbs and roots that are macerated in rum. It is a sizzling Garifuna drink served at all Honduran restaurants
